Album Review: Perfume JPN
Well, that ended up being way more negative than I intended -_-

Please let me know what you think of this album; I often get the feeling it’s a pretty contentious Perfume release so I’d love to know what others make of it ^_^
JPN was Perfume’s strongest era visually, as it was from this point on that their visual aesthetic was completely honed and Perfume had a clear and very obvious style in their music videos. I also think it was their most interesting era single wise, although their killer era defining single came so late at a point when I think that many may have already written it off. That killer single being “Glitter”.
What really hurt this era though was the album. JPN’s album tracks were flat out crap. The only songs on JPN I listen to are the singles, and one of the best singles from JPN (and one of my picks for one of Perfume’s best singles, period) “Glitter”, got given a God awful album mix - with the opening chords being the only good thing about it. Then there’s “Laser beam” which had its hot intro and bridge sections removed.
I think out of all of Perfume’s albums, JPN is the one which doesn’t hold up that well as a whole. Even though many shitted on ‘Triangle’, it was a much more consistent album than JPN and it had some killer songs. There isn’t a damn album cut on JPN which can hold a candle to “Night flight”. Not one. Fuck “My color” and “Take a stroll”.
I’ll always have a soft spot for JPN, because this was the era when I started to like Perfume and became a fan. I think the more conventional pop sensibilities in the songs definitely helped bring them new fans and audiences, which makes this era and album a success. But I get the feeling it may have pissed older fans off as the music seemed to be going through a process of dilution.
